OpenAI has been the main character in this AI race for a while now, and as much as I love to root for the underdog, ChatGPT has always felt most compelling to me compared to other LLMs. And ever since before GPT-4o popped off featuring a 128k context window, I voted with my dollars for OpenAI with the belief that this pioneer would continue riding its momentum for a very long time. But who'dathunk it: I finally pulled the trigger and canceled my OpenAI subscription today.
Conversely, I never thought I'd give Google Gemini a second chance. But it's so deeply integrated with the Google ecosystem, and I've already locked myself in to the point of no return. Not to mention it's truly multimodal.
There's definitely a quote out there about how brand loyalty is counterproductive — something like your stock options don't care about your loyalty. It's on the tip of my tongue...but anyway, yeah, don't get needlessly attached to brands.1
